While many sites make their links nofollow, there are still many places where it is possible to get a real, i.e. a dofollow backlink. Learn how to find these places.

Nofollow links are becoming more or less the standard but still there are ways and places to get a dofollow link for free. Yes, it is possible to get a dofollow link for free – paid links (and in some cases reciprocal links) might look like the only alternative to bypass the nofollow blockade but actually this is not so. If a webmaster knows how to search for dofollow sites, it is possible to find many good places to get a dofollow backlink from. Here are some suggestions how to search for dofollow sites.

Search with Google for Lists of Dofollow Sites

The easiest way to find lists of dofollow sites is to search with Google. There are many such lists online and even though not all of them are reliable, still many of the entries in such lists are usable. After a webmaster has gathered a list of dofollow sites, the next step is to filter the sites that are within the particular niche of interest. For many niches it is even possible to find high PR sites, which offer dofollow links for free, while for others such sites are extremely rare. In addition to lists there are also directories of dofollow sites, so they can be checked as well.

Search for Dofollow Social Bookmarking Sites

Social bookmarking sites are one of the best ways to get a deep dofollow link. Additionally, high trafic social bookmarking sites can drive a lot of traffic. Again, the best approach is to search with Google for lists of dofollow social bookmarking sites. The good news is that even some of the highest ranking social bookmarking sites are dofollow. Anyway, when a webmaster finds a social bookmarking site marked as dofollow, he or she should first check if the links there are really do follow and then add bookmarks of his or sites.

Search for Dofollow Article Directories

Article directories are one more place where a webmaster could get a backlink, free publicity and probably some traffic for free. What is more, many article directories have adopted revenue sharing, which means that content providers get a cut of the profits and this is one more reason for a webmaster to submit articles to article directories. A fast search with Google for dofollow article directories produces decent results.

Search for Dofollow Web Directories

Web directories are not dead (yet) and in the ideal case they should also be included in the backlink building and promotion efforts. Again, there are many lists online of dofollow web directories and a webmaster just needs to find them.

Search for Dofollow Blogs

Dofolllow blogs are probably the most numerous type of sites where a webmaster can get a free dofollow backlink from. However, blogs generally have the nofollow attribute but still it is possible to find a list of blogs within a particular niche where a webmaster can post a comment with a backlink.

Check with the Firefox NoDoFollow Addon

When a webmaster searches for dofollow sites, social bookmarking sites, article directories, web directories, or blogs, he or she should always check if a site, which is reported as a dofollow is really so. Sometimes sites have dofollow links to their external pages only and nofollow links to everything else.

Checking the HTML code to see if each of the links is a dofollow one is pure waste of time. Fortunately, there is no need to do it because there is a handy Firefox addon (called NoDofollow), which when installed and enabled shows at a glance which links on a page are dofollow (they are in blue) and which are nofollow (they are in pink).

Backlink building is one of the most time-consuming SEO tasks but if a webmaster wants to have a high-ranking site, backlink building can't be skipped. Dofollow links, especially dofollow links for free are hard to find but when a webmaster knows where to search for them, this is not that impossible.
