Microsoft search engine christened Bing with some new features has been launched to fight against the other players in the fiercely competitive search engine market.
The opinion among computer professionals is sharply divided as to whether Bing will succeed in ousting Google from the market. However, armed with a new name and a readiness to spend $80 million in marketing and sales promotion efforts, Microsoft is intent on going for the overkill.
Features of Bing Search Engine
Many computer professionals agree that one of the striking features of Bing is its ability to organize search results into various categories that are listed at the top left of the page that Microsoft calls the Explore Pane and the tab-like links named Quick Tabs. For instance, if the user searches for Abraham Lincoln, the results are listed under different heads - images, biography, facts, quotes, issues, speeches and videos.
In other words, Bing lets the searcher know it has exhaustive results for every aspect of Lincoln’s life and works. By clicking on the category link, the user will be led to more in-depth details. There is something more to this as Bing further automatically lists results from each category into the main results page calling it Web Groups.

After elaborate research, Microsoft has concluded that people will be interested in the Web Groups it has selected. The company claims these groups are drawn on the topics most queried in relation to a core term.
But there is the criticism that searchers either will not notice the various groupings Microsoft is attempting and the concept of grouping results is nothing new and also, it was earlier resented by many as clustering. One should bear in mind that even Google still has a similar form of clustering.
It is said that the searcher gets 20 results with Bing as against the customary 10 results that have all along been the norm for most search engines. This is considered a big plus factor as the more results the searcher obtains, the more the chances of getting materials to match the searcher’s requirements.

Each search result page is customized according to what type of search one does and the algorithms determine the order of results on the page, as well as the layout of the page indicating what sections appear.
As a summing up note, it may be argued that users are having access to several hundreds of links but still not succeeding in getting the right results. Bing tries to solve this problem by offering up different exhaustive aspects on the search. The company also claims that Bing will be rolling out more features as time passes.
