Concept of web 3.0 and semantic web has given web pioneers of the world a totally new search concept - Organic SEO!

Organic SEO is a type of website optimization that provides natural results from search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, cuil.com, ask.com, and many others. When a visitor goes to any of these search engines and types in the keyword or key phrase, there are two kinds of results that pop up - sponsored listings and organic SEO.

Sponsored listings are usually found at the top, bottom or right hand side of the search engine page. These are normally names of businesses that pay the search engines to position their names on the front page for a certain keyword search.

Organic SEO focuses on promoting websites on the natural search engine results unlike sponsored links. Organic SEO is less expensive, reflects a true measure of search engine optimization efforts and can be more easily managed than sponsored listings.

Understanding Organic SEO

Organic SEO refers to the practice of achieving high natural placement in a search engines result page (SERP). Wikipedia defines organic SEO as "the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines through a natural (‘organic’ or ‘algorithmic’) search results”.

Search engines expect web pages being configured in a way which makes it easy to crawl by search engine bots. The more times the crawlers find a website link on different websites, the more likely it will get a better score and thereby better ranking. SEO can be enhanced by focusing on keyword density, page content and link building

Keyword Density

The Keywords, Title, Image Alt text, Text and overall design - all of them play decisive roles in determining how the website will rank in search engines. Most Internet users will visit a search engine, type in a keywordor key phrase and look through the top ten, or at best top twenty, results. If the site does not rank within the top 10 or 20 results, the target audience will invariably miss the site.

So, the first step is selecting the right keywords or key phrases that best reflect the web page. In this regard, Keyword Density helps in determining the occurrence of main keyword used in the web content and thus gives relevance to the web page.

The keywords have to be used effectively and in appropriate places to draw the attention of web crawlers. Inappropriate and overuse of keywords will have negative effects turning the website into a spammer. Although many search engines are no longer using Meta tags to assist them in ranking a web page, it is still worth the effort to include them.

Importance of Link Building

Links play a decisively important role in SEO. The more links a site has from other quality websites, the more valuable the website becomes to the search engines. Search engines understandably trust the appreciation from other websites, especially those websites that already rank high. Link building from other sites however calls for some strategic planning.

Content is King

It is often said and worth repeating ‘Content is King’.

SEO Content writing involves the process of integrating keywords and key phrases into the actual content of the website. Quality content writing attracts not only the customer but also to the website search engines. An imaginatively written SEO Content improves the search engine positioning, drives more traffic to the site, attracts ready-to-buy audience to the site, generates new leads and contributes to increased sales.

Get Directory listings

Getting directory listings is critically important if the site is new or it is a site with no inbound links. A good way to start is to get listed in as many directories as possible. Some of the better known directories are: Open Directory, Yahoo, LookSmart, Zeal.com, Joeant.com and Business.com. Please note that most of these directories will charge for a listing - but it is worth the expense.

SEO Tools

There are several useful organic SEO tools that can be used to design a site aimed at improving the overall search engine rankings.

· RSS, which stands for real simple syndication feeds, are a very simple way to update customers on the products and services as they occur. Through an RSS feed, the potential customers can receive updates immediately on a regular basis.

· Social bookmarking is another important SEO tool. With a social bookmarking site, one can communicate with everyone else on the Internet.

· Google Sitemaps are powerful web tools that give one of the leading search engines a close look at the website. The sitemap will tell the search engine robots exactly where to go instead of searching.

· Roboform is another effective tool and the software will remember passwords and login information from many sites, though this is not the main use. It can also be a very useful tool for directory, article, and press release submission.

An organic SEO is a long term project and usually requires a long term investment. It is not uncommon for organic SEO to take a few months to start yielding results. But once high ranking results are achieved, they are often long lasting and will continue to produce clicks for months. If done correctly, organic SEO will yield a high ROI especially when compared to a sponsored links.
